A record-label name can carry a powerful musical memory. The harder task is making it useful to artists who are building something new.
[PIAS] announced the relaunch of Source on September 10, 2026, with its UK and French teams jointly directing artist discovery and creative development. The first four signings are Ifulki, Disgusting Sisters, Epal and HINA, according to the distributed company announcement. [PIAS] press release via Record of the Day
Source is associated with releases from artists including Air, Phoenix and Kings of Convenience. That history explains the name’s recognition, but the current announcement concerns a new roster and a shared working structure rather than a reunion of those earlier acts.
Music Business Worldwide reported the development September 11 and noted that releases under Source had already been arriving before the formal relaunch announcement. Disgusting Sisters’ debut album, Skin & Blisters, is scheduled for October 30. An announced release date remains a future milestone, not a completed commercial result. Music Business Worldwide
The catalog history is less straightforward than a nostalgic headline might suggest. MBW reports that the original Source catalog is now distributed among different owners, while [PIAS] says it represents portions of it. The relaunched label name should not be read as proof that every historic recording has moved into one catalog. Music Business Worldwide
Our music-business analysis is that the important promise here is coordination. A joint team can potentially connect local knowledge with a broader release campaign. Whether that produces better outcomes depends on the actual support artists receive, not simply the number of territories named in an announcement.
For emerging musicians, the questions are concrete. Who is responsible for the release plan? How are recording, marketing and touring decisions made? Which rights are being licensed or transferred, and for how long? None of those answers can be inferred from the label’s reputation alone.
A&R—artists and repertoire—is the industry shorthand for finding talent and helping develop recorded work. A cross-border A&R structure is therefore an organizational decision, not a genre. The new acts do not have to sound like the label’s earlier roster to make the arrangement meaningful.
[PIAS] describes itself as a group of labels supporting artists through an international network. That is the company’s positioning; the relaunch’s long-term effectiveness will need to be assessed through the records, campaigns and artist relationships that follow. [PIAS] label group
There is also a distinction between a label launch and an open application for representation. This announcement does not establish an unsolicited-demo process or guarantee that contacting the company will lead to a signing.
The fresh development is a familiar label being put behind four current acts and a shared British–French team. The worthwhile story from here is what that structure enables them to make.
