Small businesses in Miami-Dade County Commission District 9 have a short window to compete for up to $5,000 through the 2026 Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program. Applications can be downloaded or picked up through Friday, October 2, and completed packets are scheduled for submission October 5 through October 9.
This is a competitive grant, not a loan, and approval is not guaranteed. The county says eligible uses can include equipment, supplies, advertising and marketing, inventory, building-liability insurance, security systems and minor renovations. Applicants should follow the program guidelines rather than assume every expense will qualify.
The basic rules narrow the field. The business must be for-profit, located inside District 9 and not part of a national chain. A physical address is required, although the county says home-based businesses may apply. Supporting documents can include a W-9, a municipal local business tax certificate and any required professional or operating licenses.
The geography is crucial. A Miami-Dade mailing address does not automatically mean a business is in Commission District 9. Owners should verify the district before spending time on the packet. The current opportunity is specifically tied to Vice Chairman Kionne L. McGhee’s district allocation; the county page lists the other district windows as closed.
Applications are available at the Richmond Heights Business Development Hub in the Larcenia J. Ballard Plaza, 14508 Lincoln Boulevard, Suite 210, Miami, Florida 33176. The county’s announcement says completed applications, with all required attachments, will be accepted there from Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 9, with a 4 p.m. deadline on the final day.
Treat the deadline as a document deadline, not a brainstorming deadline. A missing tax certificate or license can take longer to fix than the application itself. Owners should download the official packet now, make a checklist from the required attachments, verify that names and addresses match across documents, and keep a copy of everything submitted.
No legitimate official should promise an award, charge an unofficial “guarantee” fee or ask an applicant to send documents through an unverified link. Use the Miami-Dade County page or the listed public hub. Grant funds can also carry reporting, documentation and approved-use requirements; “grant” does not mean free of conditions.
For a neighborhood business, $5,000 may not transform an entire balance sheet, but it can cover a security upgrade, a targeted inventory purchase or a marketing push that would otherwise be delayed. The strongest application will connect a specific eligible expense to a clear business need—and arrive complete, on time and through the official channel.
