AP Source: Miami Hurricanes Set for a $200 Million-Plus Nike Reunion

The Miami Hurricanes are reportedly heading back to the Swoosh. An Associated Press source familiar with the agreement said the University of Miami and Nike have struck a 10-year athletics deal valued at more than $200 million, with the new relationship scheduled to begin in July 2027.

That is the headline—but the attribution matters. As of the AP’s September 17 report, neither Miami nor Nike had formally announced the agreement. The value also represents a package that includes cash, apparel and marketing components, not a single check dropping into the athletic department’s account.

Miami’s current 12-year Adidas agreement expires June 30, 2027. That means Hurricanes teams are not changing uniforms this season, and fans should not treat the report as an immediate retail launch. The practical transition, if completed on the reported terms, would start after the Adidas contract ends.

The reunion carries real brand history. Miami’s original relationship with Nike dates to the 1980s, when the school became a pioneer in comprehensive university apparel partnerships. The Hurricanes switched to Adidas in 2015, making the next change a return after more than a decade apart.

For South Florida sports culture, the symbolism is easy to understand. The U, Nike and the swagger-heavy football eras of Miami’s past occupy the same mental highlight reel for many fans. But nostalgia is only one layer. A modern apparel agreement also affects uniforms across sports, licensed merchandise, recruiting presentation and the athletic department’s broader marketing platform.

The reported price tag invites another distinction. “More than $200 million” over 10 years describes total value, not necessarily guaranteed annual cash. Until a public contract or official announcement provides the breakdown, claims about how much will fund athlete revenue sharing, facilities or name-image-and-likeness activity remain speculation.

Current athletes with individual endorsement deals may also operate under different rules from team uniforms. A university-wide supplier agreement does not automatically describe every athlete’s personal sponsorship rights or obligations.

Our read: this would be one of the most culturally resonant apparel reunions in college sports, but the cleanest reporting is still the simplest. A source says the agreement is done; Miami and Nike have not yet put their names on a public announcement. Fans can celebrate the direction while waiting for the paperwork, product calendar and official rollout.

The next meaningful update will be confirmation from the university or Nike. Until then, the verified timeline is a reported 10-year deal beginning in July 2027—after Adidas’ contract expires—not a uniform change happening today.
